In the 1920's we already met in the Hungarian Cup's final round with MTK. Unfortunately, in 1923 the blue-white team won, the final result was 4-1. After three years, in 1926 we had the chance again to win the competition, sadly we defeated the battle.
In addition, we can mention the first MTK - Újpest FC match as well, when we met in the quarterfinal in 1909. Unluckily our team stood off from the game, so without the 90 minutes, MTK advanced and went into the finals with the BTC. Or, the other quarterfinal in 1968, where MTK won against our robustious team to 4-3.
If we start off the previous results, we could say that Újpest FC has atrocious memories with the blue-white team. However, this is not the truth. The club already won the Hungarian Cup nine times. (1969, 1970, 1974–1975, 1981–1982, 1982–1983, 1986–1987, 1991–1992, 2001–2002, 2013–2014).
Before we got into the final rounds in the Cup and won them, the Purples already met with and defeated MTK three times.
We met with the blue-white soccers in the semi-finals, in 1969 June. Fortunately, we could win to 4-0 in the Szusza Ferenc Stadium. Ferenc Bede scored two goals, Antal Dunai II and Benő Káposzta shooted one-one goal.
One year later, in June of 1970 in the quarter-finals, we were the guests at Hungária körút Stadium, where we could win 2-1, the shooters were Ferenc Bene and Antal Dunai II.
Even the younger generation can remember the last battle with MTK in 2014. In this season we again met in the semi-finals. After the 0-0 away match, the Purples won 3-0, with Péter Kabát, Balázs Balogh, and Juanan goals at the Szusza Ferenc Stadium. At that time, Nebojsa Vignjevic was already the Purples' head coach. Moreover, his first match on the bench was against MTK in October of 2013.
In the last twenty years, we only had three final-matches against each other in the Hungarian Cup. The aforementioned semi-final in 2014.
In 2008-2009 the pot was to get into the four best team, against MTK.
The first meeting was on 11th of March in 2009. With Péter Kabát's and Attila Simon's goal we could win 2-1. At the revenge match, Attila Simon scored two goals in the first half, and we were sure about the victory. However, after the break László Lencse, Ádám Hrepka and Ádám Szabó scored and reversed the results. The final score was 3-2 at the Szusza Ferenc Stadium. Unfortunately, they scored more goals as a guest, so they went to the semi-finals.
In 2009 springtime, the Purples won 2-1. We are thinking about this match with grievous heart since this was Bence Lázár's second match in the Hungarian Cup.
The third meeting staged at Fáy street in May of 1998 when we had final-match against each other. Sadly, Attila Kutor, the MTK's player scored a goal, and they won the Hungarian Cup. However, we lost the Cup, we think about this season with a great feeling since we won the Hungarian Championship!
We hope that after years we will remember this season (2017/2018) as a successful year when we could win the Hungarian Cup!
